“ I think I've been here before but it's been a long, long time. I came out here around 3PM on a Monday and they still had the three items I wanted to try, but it did look like they were almost out. So like most bakeries, get there early. I tried the sesame ball, mango mochi, and their infamous egg tarts. Sesame ball- 3/5 not bad but nothing exciting. It was kind of cold and didn't have that super fresh taste to it, but I did get there later in the day. Mango mochi- my favorite. It's so refreshing and the perfect sweetness level. The texture is beautifully smooth and almost custardy. Egg tart- a close second. The crust is light and flaky and the egg custard tastes very fresh and delicate. When I got it, it was piping hot so careful shoving it in your mouth! ”

“ I had to come see what the hype was all about. I went in for a single dan tat/egg custard tart and now $2 and 15 minutes later I'm thinking I should've bought a box. Mine was fresh out of the oven. It hadn't even reached the display case. The custard was hot and silken and faintly sweet. The pastry was so buttery and perfectly crisp and flakey. I'm probably in the minority saying this but I would like it just a bit sweeter than it was. I've baked these before at home and they are a serious labor of love in the kitchen. Regardless of personal preference, ECK has really honed their craft and their egg custards are delicious! ”

“ Location is in the corner of Nha Trang Plaza and cross streets are Wilcrest and Bellaire. I came mid morning and a lot of items were sold out already. I managed to grab some egg tarts, a slice of Japanese cheesecake, and mango mochi. Eveything was so delicious and not too sweet! The egg tarts were so flakey! Definitely my favorite out of everything I bought. Interior of the shop is very simple, it is a grab and go place with really no seating. Prices are reasonable also. ”

“ A friend recommended this spot for the egg tarts. While the egg tarts are good, the mango mochi is the star of the show in my opinion. It's filled with actual chunks of mango which is delicious. It is ready around 12 even though they open earlier. I also tried the wife cake. It was a little dry for me, but I liked the flavor of the filling. I was told it's cash only, but they accept card for a small fee. ”

“ Eck Bakery is a Houston Bellaire institution when it comes to Cantonese style egg tarts. This is a no frills bakery that simply makes their pastries to perfection. Not too sweet and the flakiest crust, perfect. Service wise, come early if possible because they will sell out on most days. They used to be cash only, but thankfully they accept credit card now for a small processing fee. Personally, if I'm ever short on time for making food for a potluck, I'll just grab a couple dozen eggs tarts and mango mochi to bring instead. Everyone is happy whenever they come here. Egg tarts, mango mochi, and barbeque pork puffs are all you need in life. 10/10 would recommend this bakery, enjoy! ”

“ This one has been on my hit list for a minute and it did not disappoint! I've been a long standing fan of the egg tarts from 85 Bakery, but a new challenger has risen. To compare, the pastry of these egg tarts are so so flakey and buttery, and the egg custard itself is not too sweet with a lighter density. It's a different breed of egg tart entirely. Dim sum egg tarts are bottom shelf material in comparison. Save room for dessert from whatever place you're dining at so you can savor these, but don't come too late or you might risk them selling out! I didn't see any mango mochi displayed, but the worker had recommended some and I said sure why not. Another customer had advocated I try them too. Glad I did because it was definitely worth it. Fresh, soft and chewy mochi with fresh mango inside. The ratio of fruit to mochi was perfect. Also not too sweet, absolutely love it, this place knows how to please. Inside there's not much going on, but if you're coming here you're coming for their treats anyways! ”

“ Amazing! So happy to have stumbled onto this find through Yelp searches. We got a pork puff, curry puff, mango mochi ball, and sesame balls. Everything was incredible! The mango mochi was made fresh right before we bought it. The dough was so delicate and soft you could slurp it without biting, and the mango inside was fresh fruit! The pork and curry pastries were full of delicious filling and the pastry was really crispy and airy and so, so good. Inside is clean and a little spartan, but definitely comfortable if you wanted to eat your pastries right there. Lots of seating and tables. Will definitely be back. My son and I watched the cake master through the window and he came out to offer us a bite of some of the layer cake offcuts. Made my son's day. ”

“ Landed in Houston famished and was picked up from the airport by a dear friend who lives locally. He was prepared to take us on a food tour through the city, and we stopped here for a pre-food tour snack, because we had a full day of eating to fuel up for. Growing up on the pastries from Cantonese bakeries in NY gave me a palate for the finer things in life (read: egg tarts) but I have to say these are on another level. In Houston it seems all the eateries are in strip malls, and this is no different. It's truly the definition of no frills, with no seating and nearly empty display cases-- I was almost worried they ran out of everything. Luckily, we snagged some of the last few egg tarts. The crust was everything-- perfectly crispy, flakey, and fresh, and the custard was like a less sweet flan. I love these little pies and would eat one everyday if I could! ”
